The Tasting Room
“Closest Winery to Washington, DC”, The Winery at Bull Run sits adjacent to the Manassas Civil War Battlefield Park. On the property is the stone foundation of the Hillwood mansion, an original structure from the time of the First Battle of Bull Run. In the main building of the winery, the mural spans the length of the tasting bar and captures a panoramic view of the moment of the first shot of the First Battle of Bull Run, the first major battle of the Civil War.

The Barn at the Winery at Bull Run
Some time after the opening of the tasting room, the owners decided to build a barn structure on the property for storage etc. Since the broad side of the new building would be one of the first things you see when approaching from the parking lot, they came up with the idea to do a painting there, directly on the barn wood slats. Working in the style of old painted advertisements, the design recalls the Great Gatsby era while promoting Virginia wine. It has since become a sort of landmark there, with brides and grooms, and whole bridal parties getting their photos taken in front of it.
